Project difficulties
This villa was built in 2010 and features outdated plaster ceilings and fixed incandescent lamps. Such a setting neither meets the demands of a family's modern lifestyle nor can it withstand the climate of Moscow. The main challenges include:
- Ceiling damage: Due to extreme temperature fluctuations and dry indoor air, the original gypsum ceiling has developed cracks and peeling. Water seepage during the spring thawing period also led to the growth of mold on the basement ceiling.
- Poor lighting performance and energy waste: Fixed incandescent lamps do not provide uniform lighting. This system consumes 8,500 kilowatt-hours per month, resulting in high energy bills.
- Inflexible design of multi-functional Spaces: Families often hold gatherings and need lighting that can adapt to different scenarios. Fixed lights cannot be adjusted, and the plaster ceiling makes it impossible to add new lighting points without major renovations.
The family's goal is clear: to renovate the ceiling and lighting system to adapt to the climate of Moscow, reduce energy costs by more than 40%, create a luxurious aesthetic that blends Russian classical and modern styles, add flexible lighting for multi-functional uses, and ensure the durability and low maintenance of the renovation.

We have chosen aluminium alloy profiles with a special anodized coating that can withstand a temperature range of -40°C to 80°C - which is crucial for the extreme winters in Moscow. The main customization of villa space:
- Classic style profiles (living room and dining room) : The stretched ceiling aluminum supports the checkered PVC stretch film, replicating the grandeur of traditional Russian manors, and the stretch film can prevent the growth of cracks and mold.
- Waterproof profiles (basement and bathroom) : Aluminum profiles combined with IP67-level waterproof stretch soft film to solve the problem of water leakage during spring thawing. The tight sealing design of the profile prevents water from seeping into the ceiling structure and eliminates the risk of mold.

We integrated the 48V smart magnetic track light with the stretched ceiling aluminum profiles.
- Adjustable warm white spotlights (living room and bedroom) : 3000K high color rendering index (≥90) warm white spotlights to counteract the dazzling winter light in Moscow and create a comfortable atmosphere. Magnetic design enables homes to reposition spotlights to highlight artworks.
- Linear ambient light: A slender 4000K natural white linear light is installed in the magnetically drawn aluminum profile, providing uniform illumination and preventing black spots in the long corridors of the villa. The light is dimmable and its brightness can be adjusted as needed.
- RGB festival lights (restaurant and atrium) : Color-changing RGB lights that can be synchronized with Russian festivals. Magnetic tracks allow for the easy addition/removal of these fixtures without damaging the ceiling.
